Review

With the latest ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film now on our screens featuring a Bristolian pirate, Blackbeard, what better way to celebrate this than to go to the pub that apparently Blackbeard drank in.

Golden Guinea is that such pub, which is situated on Guinea Street, just around the corner from the harbour and The Ostrich pub. On their website, they claim to be ‘Bristols Best Backstreet Boozer’; This is a fairly bold statement, but has some truth in it as it is a fairly decent pub and has a good small range of cider.

It has recently had a refurb and has a great little beer garden at the back. Though I think you would need to get there around lunchtime to get some sun, as it was quite shady when we went in the late afternoon.

Once inside, I was desperate to try some of their Blackbeard cider that I have been hearing all about; However, I was out of luck this time as it was temporarily off tap. I nearly went for the Old Rosie as a replacement, but I thought I’d go for the Kingstone Press instead, as I had never had that on tap before. It was a refreshing pint and will be reviewed soon in due course.

I’m glad I finally got around to visiting this pub and can’t wait to go back soon, especially as I really want to try the Blackbeard cider!
