Review:

After hearing so much on Twitter about Blaengawney Farm/Hallets cider, I just jumped at the chance to try it, when it was available on draught at The Green Man’s cider festival.

Blaengawney Farm are a small scale producer, from the Caerphilly region, where they have been producing cider for the past 6 years on their 25 acre Blaengawney farm. Although only small, they have won many awards, which recently included 7 awards at the Welsh Perry and Cider Championships.

The cider I tasted was their medium draught cider, in the bag-in-the-box. This had a similar taste to Thatchers Traditional, but just had so much more to it. There was a much fuller and exciting flavour, with a slight sour citrus bite. The finish was partially dry, but nothing too drastic, though I am glad the taste did linger for a while. I really think this cider is something you could happily keep drinking for the long haul, though maybe not too many, as it is still 6%.

I was really quite impressed with the cider and hopefully should sample more of their range when I pop on down to the International Craft Cider Festival in August.
