Review:

When I got to the International Craft Cider Festival, I went straight in at the deep end and bought a cider without even trying it. I don’t usually do that, as I like to try before I buy, but the excitement of being there just got the better of me. My other half suggested we went to see the Rosie’s Triple D guy (Steve Hughes), who was in the Welsh cider tent, as he looked a bit lonely. I duly obliged and went to see what was on offer from his stall.

Mr Whitehead’s Boxing Dog Cider Review

Cider Name: Boxing Dog
Region: Hampshire
ABV: 7.5%
Taste: Medium/Dry
Served: Half-pint at room temperature
Smell: Fruity
Colour: Light straw
Clarity: Clear

Review:

Surprisingly for me this is my first review of a Mr Whitehead’s cider. Having had one of their other ciders, Cirrus Minor, plenty of times previously (in the likes of Wetherspoons), it has escaped my reviewing thus far. Though not anymore, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this would you?!?

Millwhites Straw Pressed Cider Review

Vital Stats:

Producer: Millwhites
Cider Name: Straw pressed cider
Region: Somerset/Hertfordshire
ABV: 7%
Taste: Medium/Dry
Served: Half-pint at room temperature
Smell: Apple
Colour: Dull golden
Clarity: Cloudy
Carbonation: Still

Review:

Having previously enjoyed the Millwhites Rioja Cask cider at the Lazy Dog a good few months back, I thought I would see how the straw pressed cider compared to it when I recently visited the Bristol Cider Festival. Straw pressed cider is how cider used to be pressed through back in the day, but I rarely see it done with cider now. Presumably it is not as effective or not to everyone’s taste.
