Having had plenty of their Farmhouse Cider previously, at the Bristol Cider House, my eyes lit up when I saw this was available at the Bristol Cider Festival. Could this match up to my previous good experiences of a Crossman’s cider or would it crash and burn, like some of the other ciders had that evening?

Ben Crossman is a 4th generation Crossman to make cider at their farm in Hewish, Somerset. Things there are made in the traditional ways and if you visit their farm, then they can blend you the cider how you would want it, whether that is sweet, dry or something in between.

So now onto how this one tastes and well I am in 2 minds about it really. It’s a fairly smooth cider, has slight acidity and a nice bitterness to it, but it just doesn’t do too much for me. It feels a little bit of a monotone cider and it is lacking something to make it exciting and give me the wow factor. By no stretch of the imagination is it an awful cider, but it just isn’t for me. I shall be sticking to their Farmhouse Cider in the future instead of this one I think.

Update 21/04/12: This looks to have been another dodgy pint at the Bristol Cider Festival last year, as I do quite like this. I got this straight from their farm recently and it has a good balance of acidity (though maybe too acidic for some) and tannins and at 7% it needs to be respected or it could get messy!  A really tasty farmhouse cider that needs to be tried!

Update 19/09/12: Still as beautiful as ever. Good levels of acidity again, but slightly more bitter this time, but at the same time it’s very loveable. Definitely an exquisite tipple and one you must try if you like your ciders more on the rough side. You can nearly feel like you’re drinking this straight from the barrel with this and I love that! This is up there with the best of them

Would I buy this again?: Yes
Overall Rating: 9/10
