Seeing as you can’t get more English than St. George, what better way to get you feeling patriotic for the big England game tomorrow than having a cider with St. George in its name. For those of you reading it after the 24th June, then fingers crossed we went on to win that game and the tournament. Wishful thinking I know!

Cotswold Cider Review

Vital Stats:

Producer: Cotswold Brewing Company
Cider Name: Cider
Region: Gloucestershire
ABV: 5%
Taste: Sweet
Served: Chilled 500ml bottle
Smell: Apple
Colour: Straw
Clarity:Slightly cloudy
Carbonation: Lightly sparkling

Review/Tasting Notes:

Purchased From: Watershed, Bristol
Date: 20/06/12

Very sweet cider which tastes like a good apple juice. Slight citrus tones and an apple pie feel to it. It’s not for the seasoned cider drinker who likes a fairly exciting tasting cider with good tannins and acidity. It’s a good summer drink to chill with or if you are new to cider and want something sweet. Not really my thing on a typical night out.

Update 02/08/12: Just tried this from the tap in the robin hood in bristol and similar to how I mentioned above, but a little less fizzy and slight more farmyard feel to it. Still slightly on the sweet side, but definitely feels a bit better on draught.

Cider By Rosie Cider Review

Vital Stats:

Producer: Cider By Rosie
Cider Name: Cider
Region: Dorset
ABV: 6.5%
Taste: Medium/Dry
Served: Half pint at room temperature
Smell: Apple
Colour: Cloudy orange
Clarity:Clear
Carbonation: Still

Review/Tasting Notes:

Purchased From: Reading Cider Festival
Date: 04/05/12

From the look and smell it seemed like it should have been a really good cider, but unfortunately I was sadly disappointed this time. It had the bitterness and dryness right to it, but it just lacked depth and a flavour I enjoy, which sadly dampened the enjoyment. A bit of a thumbs down from me this time. There’s definite potential there for it to be a good cider though.
