Further Information: Ever wanted to make your own perry? Well now you can! Come and join us for a day making real perry in a traditional orchard with an award-winning perry-maker. A great day out for anyone with an interest in perry.

We travel up to Blakeney in Gloucestershire (where the famous Blakeney Reds come from) to meet cider and perry maker James McCrindle. James has just won Best in Show at the Big Apple Cider Trials for his bottle-fermented Loiterpin perry.

James will talk us through how perry is made, before sending us out into the orchard to pick our perry pears. We then bring them back for ‘scratting’, and make the pulp into ‘cheeses’, ready for pressing in the Victorian twin-screw cider press. It’s hard work but there’s plenty of time for a hard earned lunch and a pint or two! Everyone then takes away a gallon of the pressed juice to ferment at home into their very own batch of perry.

The cost of the day is £75, which includes tuition, fruit, transport from Bristol, lunch, cider/ perry tasting and a gallon of juice to take away. Leave Bristol Cider Shop at 10.00 (sharp!). Return 17.00 (depending on traffic). There are only limited spaces for each day so advance booking is essential. Phone Bristol Cider Shop on (0117) 3821679 for more details or book online. Over 18s only.

Note that perry making happens outdoors so if it rains we will get wet!! We have some wet weather cover but please bring waterproofs just in case!
