Going round a friends for dinner I happened to encounter a Biddendens cider, which was purchased recently from the Essex Cider Shop. It’s always nice to discover new cider in any random way I can.

My experience of Eastern cider is a bit hit and miss. Some taste decent and some just aren’t to my taste. I guess that’s the same with any style of cider, but Eastern ciders more than most. Biddendens are based in Kent and their cider is a spinoff from their main wine vineyard.

The smell of this cider has a strong sweet smell and a hint of ethanol in the background. It smells quite refreshing really.

As for the taste, it’s smooth, got a decent crisp apple taste, fairly sweet and just so easy to drink. It does have a syrupy feel to it, a pleasant sour touch to end with and a hint of dryness. It’s just not high on the excitement levels for me and a bit too sweet. If you’re a sweet cider fan, then this could be your thing.

Would I buy this again?: Probably, but not as a first choice.
