So another day and another hunt in the fridge for more cider has led me on to a Tesco Finest cider. Well, it’s only Tesco by name, as it’s produced/bottled for them by Weston’s. The labelling for this is pretty honest and straight to the point, even to the point of the ingredients too. This is made from “Cider, Water, Sugar, Malic Acid and Preservatives”, so it’s not completely all juice, but at least you know what it does and doesn’t have.

Another interesting point about this is it’s a still cider. I have not seen many supermarkets go into the still cider market before, so that’s a welcome change at least to see someone give it a go. This is also apparently matured in 100 year old oak vats, cold filtered, bottled without pasteurisation and is a medium/dry cider with a crisp appley taste.

As expected, this poured still and is a very light straw colour. If it was any lighter in colour, then it would nearly look like water! The smell is of green apples and has a typical Weston’s feel to it. There’s nothing bad in that at all, but it can be fairly distinctive. So I finally got round to actually tasting it and I have to say it doesn’t feel too bad. It’s crisp, fruity, slightly sour and fairly sweet at the same time, and even has a slight oaky aftertaste. It’s just not the most inspiring cider for me and is very similar to their Marcle Hill. It feels a little watery and just lacking in depth. I want my cider to try and challenge me and take me on an interesting journey and this just didn’t do it. If you want a light and refreshing cider, then this could be for you and more to your palate.

Would I buy this again?: Possibly
Overall Rating: 6/10
