The Christmas do was great last night and a good few ciders were had…well it ended at around 4am, so more than a good few I guess you can say! Now it is Saturday and that means it’s football day. Though with the way Bristol Rovers play nowadays, I just wish it never happened! They are already getting embarrassed by York, so a cider is needed to try to pretend that is not happening. Up first today is the Court Royal cider from Dunkertons.

Court Royal is another Single-Variety (SV) cider from Dunkertons, who have been a producer I’ve had a good few from lately. Overall the standard has been high for their ciders, so I’m actually looking forward to finally trying this one, if the others have anything to go by. The court royal apple originated in East-Devon and was originally used as a dessert variety, as it is in the sweet category. So possibly this might be like an eastern style cider?

The smell is, as expected, on the sweet side and has a decent delicate apple aroma. Onto the taste, it does have a good bit of sweetness up front, with a nice crisp apple taste. Then you feel a hell of sour, acidic bite take over your mouth, which is then followed by a slow dry finish. If you are a fan of eastern style ciders, then I think this one would be up your street and it is of a decent quality. Personally speaking, it was just not exactly on my wavelength. I can appreciate this cider for what it is, but I just am not taken by it at all.

Would I buy this again?: Possibly, but it’s not really my style of cider
Overall Rating: 7/10
