All i can say now is…….WOOHOOOO! No more going to the office again this year, as I can relax and work from home over the Xmas period. Beautiful! Sure was miserable out earlier, but I’m in the warm now and ready to have a good ol’ cider to make this evening start with a bang! Up tonight is the Medium Sweet from Severn Cider.

This is my 4th cider/perry from Severn and all have thus far been of a good quality. Though with this being a medium/sweet, I’m not sure this will be to my palate straight from the off. But hey, you only live once and therefore I’ll give this one a chance and keep an open mind about it. Now just you watch this probably surprise me now!

As with the other designs, this is a specially commissioned piece of work by Steve Hyslop and represents their cider home. The colour to indicate that it is a Medium/Sweet is green, so if you are looking for this in a shop, then look out for their funky design and that little bit of green! Also, like their other ciders, it is from fruit in local orchards (and their own), has no added nasties and they mention that cidermaking has been in their family for generations. It has all the good things on the bottle that you would expect from a decent cidermaker!

Right, lets crack this cider open and see what it is all about! This poured with a small foamy head, but as with any decent cider, it settled fairly quickly and has barely any bubbles rising to the surface. The aroma is of sweet apples and a good hint of oak. This has a very similar smell to their Dry Cider, but a little more sweet on the nose. All this talk and no action makes me thirsty, so I have my first taste and wow what a flavour! It has a light sweet apple taste on the forefront of your tongue, but then a huge oaky flavour just takes over your mouth and is very long-lasting, with it having a mild bitterness about it too. This is smooth, very easy drinking and not too sickly sweet. Sure, it does have a fairly sweet edge to it, but I find it very drinkable, even though I usually prefer the other end of the scale. Overall, for a Medium/Sweet cider, I actually do like it and enjoyed it immensely! It is lacking a little bit of acidity, needs more tannins and bite for me, but this is a cider you can easily just relax and chill with.

Would I buy this again?: Yes
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
