So another day working from home was had today and still no sign of my parcel yet! It’s meant to be with someone a couple of doors down, but there’s no sign of them! Can’t rely on Yodel to actually do anything right can you?!?! Ah well, not to worry now as the weekend is here, a friend’s birthday party to go to later and of course it is cider time again! My first cider of the weekend is the Kingston Redstreak from Once Upon A Tree (also known by Dragon Orchards too).

For those of you who have not come across Once Upon A Tree before, they have recently been crowned the best drinks producer by BBC Food & Farming Awards 2012. Well done to the guys on that award and I’m hoping this is as decent, if not better, than the Tumpy Ground I have had previously. This cider is labelled a medium/dry and is a blend between the Kingston Black & Somerset Redstreak cider apples. From what I have been told, it has 75% Kingston Black and 25% Somerset Redstreak, so the taste should be a little more like a Kingston Black in theory. It’s been designed to be a cider to be drank with food, but this time I won’t be doing that, especially as I’m eating again very soon!

Right, it’s time to open this one up now and see what it has to offer! The aroma is of a beautifully juicy apples, with a hint of spice and is very inviting. As for the taste, it is lightly sweet and fruity to start with before you get a rich juicy astringent/sour/acidic apple taste, which feels fairly citrusy and has a hint of bitterness in the finish. The aftertaste is long-lasting, dry, has a slightly oaky feel and is just dead sexy. Overall, I really like it, but the touch of acidity in the middle of the taste could be off-putting for some. It works well for me and I’d happily have this again!

Would I buy this again?: Yes
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
