After a pleasant night in yesterday with a cider or 2, I’ve since had a mammoth gym session and about to have a hearty roast dinner I have as leftovers. To chill out with today I am going to finish off the rest of my posh ciders/perries and end with an Aurora Perry from Butford Organics.

This has been sat on the shelf for an age now (around 3 months) but it’s finally time for it to shine with all its glory. Well I really hope it does, as I’ve yet to have a bad cider/perry from Butford Organics yet. Their draught medium cider was exceptionally decent, although I’ve yet to try their perry from memory.

Aurora perry is made from 100% juice and has the main pear varieties of Blakeney Red, Moorcroft and Oldfield. I’m familiar with the Blakeney Red pears, but the other 2 are fairly new on me. This has been bottle conditioned and therefore should have a fairly decent fizz to it. Well, it would be a bit misleading to put a still cider/perry in a champagne style bottle! As for awards, this has recently secured 3rd place in the ‘Peoples Perry Competition Malvern Show 2012’.

I cracked open the bottle expecting a bit of a fizz and drama, but no it gave off a little hiss and no crazy foaming out of the bottle. It poured a dull yellow colour, lightly sparkling, a gorgeous sweet pear aroma with a hint of ethanol and some sediment showing within the glass. It doesn’t look like your typical champagne style perry and I am actually glad about that! The taste is of sweet succulent pears to begin with, then a lightly twangy lemon-type taste with mild sharpness, which then follows with a little dryness.  The mix between the sweet pears and the sourness seems to work well and the light fizz enhances your experience and keeps the excitement going. It’s easy drinking, moreish, tasty and suits my palate very well.

Would I buy this again?: Yes
