After a rather hit and miss Saturday at the Bristol Cider Festival, followed by an awesome roast dinner at a friends yesterday, then today means back to the real world and work! I really do hate it how the weekend goes so quickly and then the Monday to Friday slog just drags on! Can’t it be swapped?!?! Anyway, tonight is another chilled night in and time to sample the Dry Organic Cider from Dunkertons.

It has to be said that Dunkertons are definitely one of my favourite producers in the Herefordshire region. There’s not many producers who could pull me away from a traditional Somerset scrumpy, but they are definitely up there with the best of them. Their Black Fox I’ve had previously was sublime and I’m hoping this one can continue in similar vein.

This poured rather fizzy and carbonated, though that’s short-lived and only really is lightly sparkling in the whole scheme of things. The aroma is lightly dry and has a lovely rustic apple feel to it. I do love the smell of this one and hopefully it can carry on in to the taste. Thankfully it does carry on well in to the taste and has a great feel to it. It’s juicy, moderately acidic and has a gorgeous bittersweet feel in the forefront of my mouth. As I get to the end of the sip it turns fairly dry, though not too dry, and has a sharp/citric feel to it along with a little bit of oaky feel in the aftertaste. I think the balance is fairly spot on and not overpowering in any area. It could be a little too dry for some, but it fits my palate like a glove. I’ll certainly be going back for more!

Would I buy this again?: Yes
Overall Rating: 9/10

I seem to have been slacking but finally got to read your new review. How was the cider fest?

The cider festival was not bad but a bit of a let down too. There was no new ciders to speak of and some producers sent out their recent batch of ciders, which are not quite ready yet. It was still a bit of fun with the friends though and kept me busy and full of cider 🙂
