Blimey, Monday has come and gone and it actually did go pretty quickly today. There was no depressingly slow parts to it and it has come round to cider time rather easier than I expected. It looks like I’ll probably have another night in tonight and relax with a cider or 2. Up first to try is the Traditional Cider from Oliver’s.

Oliver’s are probably one of my favourite Herefordshire producers and luckily last week I found a couple more in the Bristol Cider Shop that I hadn’t tried before. Though perry is more of Oliver’s specialty, their cider isn’t too bad either. I think I’m well into double figures of reviews of theirs now, which is a testament to how good it usually is. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t have gone back so frequently for more!

Like most of their ciders, this is made from cider apples from local orchards, cold fermented by wild yeasts and then matured in oak barrels. It’s all pretty standard things they do for most of their ciders. Thankfully this is labelled as a dry, still cider and not carbonated. Wahoo good times! The only down points from looking at the label is it has added water, sugar and is pasteurised. Now it’s time to get on with opening this….

This poured a deep golden colour, which was bordering on amber and had a really fruity appley smell, with a light dry citric hint to it. As I take my first sip I get a really fruity feel to begin with, which soon turns sour and dry. Whilst it starts fairly bittersweet, it ends with a sour/acidic and bittersharp taste. Tannins feel fairly high, but this certainly is all about the sour and dryness at the end. Oh and it does linger fairly well too, with a lovely oak feel to it. This might be a bit too sour/dry for some, but personally it works fine for me. I’d happily have another.

Would I buy this again?: Yes
