I had been helping out with the guys from the Bristol Cider Shop with their festival yesterday and after all that hard work I need to reward myself today with a lovely drink. Up first is the Blakeney Red Single Variety (SV) Perry from McCrindle’s.

If anyone knows of McCrindle’s, then you’d know just what a great perry they do make. With them being based so close to Blakeney, you’d expect Blakeney Red perry pears to be in abundance, after all it is the home of it. I’ve previously had the Loiterpin Perry and that was just divine. However that was more of a celebratory perry and not something you have down the pub. That would be a very expensive evening if you tried to go with that all night!

Surprisingly I think this is actually the first time I’ve ever had their Blakeney Red (SV) perry. God knows how I’ve managed to not try this for so long, but there’s no time like the present to break that. For anyone who doesn’t know, then Blakeney Red is probably one of the most famous perry pears to make a SV cider from and after tasting some awesome ones previously I can see why! Right, I’m at a festival and I still haven’t tried anything yet……it’s time to correct that now!

As this is a festival and all come from boxes/barrels, then this is a still perry and thank god for that! It’s how I prefer things to be. This poured a light straw/yellow colour and has a rustic pear aroma to it. My initial taste was of gorgeous pears and then a moderate acidic bite, which is followed by a minor dry finish. There’s plenty of delicate pear notes to it and is just so tasty. A very moreish, easy going and sexy perry. Will be coming back for more!

Would I buy this again?: Yes
