I’m struggling to find new cider at the minute folks. I’ve not been able to get to any cider shops and the supermarkets are not really being much of a help, so it’s time to consult the higher cider shelves now. I climb up high and hope for the best and all I have is the Badger Pear Wood Cider. That will have to do for today then!

The first thing wrong with this bottle is calling it a “pear cider”. Why oh why do companies do that?!?! It’s a perry or a cider (or pider for a mix). A pear cider is an impossibility! Right, thankfully I’ve now got that one off my chest! Badger are more well-known for making their beers/lagers. Like most breweries nowadays, they want to get their foot in that lucrative cider market and Badger is no different in that respect. With the help of Thatchers they have put their brand on one of their drinks and now have one they can call their own.

This drink is labelled as “refreshingly smooth, crisp and fruity pear cider”. That doesn’t really tell you a lot about it to be honest and it’s ABV is 5%. From a first impression this is probably a rebadged Thatchers Pear Cider or very similar. It’s time to open this up and see what joys it may bring me today…

It poured a very light green colour which was bordering on being translucent. The smell is a very faint pear and has that chemical type aroma. I can’t say it is giving away a whole lot in that initial smell. I take in my first taste and umm I’m not really sure what to make of it really. It’s heavily sweet, has a light pear taste, the very mildest acidity and then nothing. It’s vanished into thin air and I take another sip and it does the same again. You need to take a huge gulp to feel any form of tanginess on the tongue, though that’s probably the carbonation enhancing it more than anything. This just has no redeeming or memorable features at all. You need to love your sweet drinks to get any sort of satisfaction out of this, but even that’s probably at a stretch. I certainly will be avoiding this in the future! That’s a poor show there Thatchers!

Would I buy this again?: No
