I’m onto day 2 in Frankfurt now and wow what a great time so far. Lots of good food was ate yesterday and an awesome international cider tasting was had. Around 15 ciders was present from across the globe and lots of snack food. Today is another trip out for lunch with Song and Edu and we have just gone out of Frankfurt to Zur Buchscheer pub. We have had schnitzel and their home made apfelwein. Today’s review will be on that.

What I have found of apfelwein so far is they are all very similar but have subtle differences. It’s hard to differentiate like I can with English ciders, but my palate is adjusting slowly.

This is a bright golden colour and perfectly still. My initial taste is a lot of acidity/sourness and then you get that drying feel come through. I do actually love the acidity and sour kicks it give but it’s just lacking the engaging of all of my taste buds. Bitterness is fairly moderate and it does taste decent. For the style of cider it is of a good quality. The thing with apfelwein is it’s all very similar from what I’ve experienced. In England styles vary heavily, whereas here it is very limited.

Would I buy this again?: Yes
