Ah what a relief the week has come to an end and I can now relax and look forward to a bumper weekend. With that in mind, it’s time for a nice steak dinner to crack open a few apfelweins. The combination of the 2 should be immense and set me up for a great West Country Cider Tour tomorrow! Up first is the Hessen A La Carte Schoppen Apfelwein from Jorg Stier

After a the decent success of the Schlehen apfelwein previously, it’s time to see if the Hessen A La Carte Schoppen Apfelwein can match up to that decent standard. The bottle mentions this apfelwein is based on old traditional recipe, is cloudy, fruity, mild, easy to drink and suitable for all. It also goes on to mentions it is good to be served with appetisers and even a dessert. All in all, it sounds like it should be a decent tipple, which I will crack open right now.

This poured with a light natural sparkle, dull cloudy yellow in colour and has a gorgeous sweet apple aroma and very fruity. My first taste was rich, smooth, sweet, very appley and then a gorgeous sour/tangy/acidic taste comes through, with a lightly tingling and dry finish. This is much sweeter than the most apfelwein I have had and it is rather tasty and refreshing. As the sourness/acidity has been toned down a lot, then it’s something that could definitely appeal to a wide range of people. I actually really like this one. Top job!

Would I buy this again?: Yes
