5th January – Brightwell cum Sotwell Wassail 2014 (Brightwell cum Sotwell, Oxfordshire) Preview

Address: Various Orchards In Brightwell cum Sotwell, Oxfordshire (Website)

Entry Price/Session times:

Sun 5th Jan: 3:30pm onwards (Free)

Tickets: N/A

Event Information: Meet at the War Memorial at 3.30 pm. Bring your whistles, bells, drums and torches.

Our first orchard is Brightwell Manor. The second stop is at The Orchards and then the third orchard is just opposite in Vine House. The procession follows the path along the fields to The Croft Orchard.

After all the trees have been blessed, good spirits welcomed and evil spirits driven away, we will finish at the Red Lion for Lambswool mulled cider and more music, singing and dancing.

Armaleggan will be dancing at Wassail helping us to reignite the old orchard traditions!

They are a Border Morris group with a dramatic look – painted faces (which is a traditional disguise) and a more robust style of dance; you might have seen their style at Bunk Fest, certainly not the white trousers and hankies of the Cotswold Morris.

They will be dancing along the procession and singing traditional Wassail songs and dancing at each of the five orchards.
