Event Information:

The Chepstow Wassail Mari Lwyd is a very popular annual event combining the mainly English tradition of Wassailing, the Welsh Mari Lwyd tradition, plus a unique social meeting of the English and Welsh on the Welsh/English border (The river Wye bridge) There is also Morris dancing and a Country Dance Ceilidh.The event is hosted by The Widders Welsh Border Morris, the local team and supported by Monmouthshire County Council, Chepstow Town Council, Chepstow Acoustic Music Club, Glosfolk and the good people of Chepstow and abroad.

2pm Meet at the Castle Pub/Three Tuns, Bridge Street. Morris Dancing and capers outside the Tuns.
3pm Wassail of the Chepstow Castle Dell (Town Council) Apple Trees in the Dell behind the Tuns. Sundry Singing and Dancing.
4pm Mari Lwyd (Welsh Grey Mare First Footing Ceremony.) at the Three Tuns. Several Authentic Horses Heads Dressed in the Traditional Way. Welsh/English Banter, Lots of Singing/Colour/Fun
5pm Wassail in Castle Pub Garden. Music, Dancing and much Merriment.
6pm Riverbank for more Morris Dancing. Outside Bar and Hot Food. Music and Noise in Preparation for the Famous “Meeting on the Bridge”.
6.30pm Meeting of the English and the Welsh in the Middle of the Old Iron Bridge. “It’s like going to War and then all Peace breaks out!”
7.15pm The Mari Lwyd Performed at the Chepstow Museum. All Floodlit, Great for Viewing and Rumours of Hot Mulled Cider!
8pm Open Mic at the Castle Pub till late. Come and Play or Just Listen to Fantastic Acoustic Music.
