Event Information:

Demonstrations of Traditional Cidermaking

Master cidermaker Ralph Owen will be demonstrating the traditional way of making cider using a portable mill and press powered by tractor engine.

Coopering

An exhibition with a display of tools and informal talks on the old craft of Coopering.

Blacksmith Demonstrations

Local Blacksmith Oliver Dakers will be providing demonstrations. Oliver is re-known for creating bespoke and creative forged metalwork of the highest standard. He draws upon many years’ experience to produce creative and unique works of art.

Beekeeping

Traditional orchards contained a lot more than just apple trees – there were usually sheep or cattle grazing and most important of all, there were beehives to ensure that the apple blossom was pollinated in order to produce a good crop of fruit. Beekeeping is a craft closely associated with cidermaking and experts will be on hand to offer advice.

Woodturning Demonstrations

Demonstrations and “have a go” sessions in traditional green woodworking techniques such as cleaving, pole-lathing and steam-bending (www.turnham-green-wood.co.uk).

Apple Display

Apple Day is celebrated on 21st October each year, and throughout the Cidermaking Festival there will be a display of the many different varieties of apples grown.

RSPB

For help and information relating to conservation of birds and wildlife, along with family activities.

Tutored Cider Tastings

Learn how to detect the constituents of cider from Master Cidermakers on both days and how to recognise the different aromas and characteristics of the many ciders on offer. £2 per person (strictly over 18’s).

Morris Dancing

Morris Dancers will be providing displays of dancing on both days, encouraging visitors to join in!
