Tickets: Ceilidh @ 8pm is £5 on the door

Event Information:

THIS SATURDAY, 16TH JANUARY 2016: THE NEWEST OLD TRADITION IN WALES (OR IS IT THE OLDEST NEW TRADITION IN WALES?). THE ANCIENT TRADITIONAL LOCAL CELEBRATIONS OF THE NEW YEAR HOSTED BY THE WIDDERS BORDER MORRIS.

Programme:

2.30pm

Meet at The Three Tuns, Bridge Street. Morris
Dancing and capers outside the Tuns.

3.00pm

Wassail of the Chepstow Castle Dell Apple Trees (Town Council/Transition Chepstow). Situated in the Lower Dell behind the Tuns. Sundry Singing and
Dancing.

4.00pm

Mari Lwyd (Welsh Grey Mare First Footing Ceremony.) at the
Three Tuns. Several Authentic Horses Heads Dressed in the
Traditional Way. Welsh/English Banter, Lots of
Singing/Colour/Fun

5.30pm

To the Chepstow Bridge (now 200 years old). Morris Dancing,
Music and Noise in Preparation for the Famous “Meeting on
the Bridge”.

6.30pm

Meeting of the English and the Welsh in the Middle of the Old
Iron Bridge. “It’s like going to War and then all Peace breaks
out!”

7.15pm

The Mari Lwyd Performed at the Chepstow Museum. All
Floodlit, Great for Viewing and Rumours of Hot Mulled Cider!

8pm till late

Country Ceilidh Dance at the Drill Hall with “Calennig”. Entry
£5. Licenced Bar. All welcome, no experience necessary.
