Event Information:

Join us for an incredible day of orchard planting, Disc Golf and introducing the fine folks of Greater Manchester to the rural traditions of wassailing an orchard. All being celebrated on the traditional ‘Old Twelvy Night‘.

The day will break down as follows:

Helping Britain Blossom, Red Rose Forest and Moss Brook Growers will be planting up a new community orchard of 50+ apple trees. Help will be needed throughout the day and pre-registration really helps us know who is coming along. Pick a time slot and help generations to come to free, local variety, scumptious apples.
There’s lots to do so adults can help with the hard graft and kids can do some digging too.

Manchester Disc Golf will be hosting open sessions all day for you to come and try their brand-new, almost 100% complete 18 hole disc golf course.

Not sure what disc golf is? Well it’s golf, but played with discs (Fribees) and the holes are permantely erected into Longford Park. Open 24/7 and free-to-use it’s sure to be one of the best courses in the country when complete this summer. You’ll find the team outside Caffiene & Co. with a few of their pop-up baskets and they’ll happily direct you down to the full course.

As the evening draws in we’ll be illuminating some of the tees and posts for a twilight night golf session too.

5pm-8pm – THE WASSAIL – Limited to 200 tickets.

To celebrate the newly created orchard we’ll be joined by local band Galavantes who will parade us down to the orchard. We’ll be leaving from Caffiene & Co. at 5:30 sharp where the Moss Cider boys will be serving up their lovely hot cider and juice. We’ll be crowning an orchard queen from amongst the crowd and serending the trees. Giving them a traditional blessing which includes hanging cider-dipped toast from the trees of all things.
The parade will begin promptly at 5:30 and our hosts Caffiene & Co. will remain open until 8pm for more refreshments and gusto from the Galavantes. So stick around!
Kids and families especially welcome, bring torches and wellies are a must!

So come with good voice and come with good cheer for we’ll be a-wassailing:

“Wassail the trees, that they may bear. You many a plum and many a pear: For more or less fruits they will bring. As you do give them wassailing.”

Kids are encourage to bring pots of pans to scare off the nasties in the orchard and there will be hot drinks-a-plenty to warm your mid-winter cockles. Mulled cider for the adults and juice for the kiddlywinks provided by The Moss Cider Project who’ll be running a paid-for bar at Caffeine & Co.
