Did you know: the word wassail comes from the Old Norse “vas heil” and Old English “was hal”, literally “be you healthy”. It refers both to the salute “Waes Hail” and to the drink of wassail, a hot mulled cider traditionally drunk as park of wassailing; a medieval drinking ritual to ensure a good cider apple harvest.
