The pub is ideally located right next door to the station. Perfect for a quick pint before/after you’re catching a train. We opted for the latter. It’s a no-frills pub which serves a good pint, even if it is only Westons. Perfectly away-fans friendly for the football, very welcoming and you can have a good chat as there is no loud music. Walking up to this place it appeared the town was getting rougher and rougher and it didn’t look like it was in the best of locations (it reminds me walking to the Bristol Cider House in Bristol). However, the pub itself was brilliant, even if a little odd with its shape from the outside. There was 3 proper ciders on tap and I was a happy chappy. I went for the Hecks cider and it went down a treat.

This is a pre-football type pub. It was full of home (Notts County) fans and will have the sport on TV if it’s on. The choice of cider looks to be a variety of proper local(ish) cider, which I always like. It is always nice to try something different from your usual Westons/Thatchers and co. I’d recommend this place if you want to watch some sport with a good pint of cider. Otherwise, then it’s not something I would go out of my way for. Read the rest of this entry »

This was probably the best cider pub in Nottingham we found for its range of ciders alone. Although most were made up from Westons/Thatchers, it did have the likes of Black Dragon which were a nice alternative. From a history point of view, this is one of the oldest pubs in Nottingham, with it dating back to 1240 AD. Apparently they have their own ghost called Rosie too and do ghost walks. Not my thing, but could be for you! It seemed a pretty laid back traditional pub that I’d definitely visit again. Read the rest of this entry »

This was the first pub on my trip up to Nottingham and what an interesting little place it is. You walk in and it does look a slightly classy place with the velvet drapes over the windows/arches and the fancy chandeliers. Then you walk past the main bar to find the 2nd bar in what can only be described as a cave. Cider wise it wasn’t brilliant for a range of selection, but what it did have was good. Hoare Farm rosehip cider is a very different cider. I could see this attracting a mixed crowd of young and old, but going at midday, we were the only customers! Read the rest of this entry »
