It’s Christmas day, the presents have been opened, I’ve played with the new toys with the nephew and now it’s time for the pièce de résistance, the Christmas dinner. Oh god how I love a good Christmas dinner and this year it is no different with the amazing selection of food being laid on. Days Cottage Ruby Pear Perry (SV) Review

Vital Stats:

Producer: Days Cottage
Perry Name: Ruby Pear (SV)
Region: Gloucestershire
ABV: 7.5%
Taste: Dry
Served: 750ml bottle at room temperature
Smell: Pear/Ethanol
Colour: Ruby red/Orange
Clarity:Slightly cloudy
Carbonation: Still

Review/Tasting Notes:

Purchased From: Bristol Farmers Market
Date: 07/07/12

Whilst on the search for the Days Cottage perry, which I loved so much at Reading Cider Festival, I saw they sold a “Ruby Pear” perry. What made it stand out was the glowing reddish colour just blazing towards me. I’ve never seen a perry with such a distinctive colour before, so it is something I just had to buy. Apparently it gets its colour as it is made from the beetroot pears found near to the farm, which is a very rare endangered variety of pear. I think they mentioned that there is only something like 3 trees in the world that grow it. How crazy is that?!?!

Olivers Rock (SV) Perry Review

Vital Stats:

Producer: Olivers
Perry Name: Rock Perry
Region: Herefordshire
ABV: 7%
Taste: Dry
Served: Pint at room temperature
Smell: Pears
Colour: Dull straw
Clarity: Slightly cloudy
Carbonation: Still

Review:

Now I’m not new or anything to Olivers cider, but it is a first for me to get in a review on their perry. As I have heard so many good things about their perry, then it would be a crime not to have tried and reviewed it. This perry is single variety which is made from the rock perry pear grown on Olivers orchard. Single variety perries in my opinion seem to work a lot better than a single variety cider, but maybe that’s because I have yet to find a truly bad one yet for perry. The Blakeney Red one is a great variety, so how will this match up to the likes of this?
