So onto another Millwhites and this time it was the Scrumpy at only 6.5%. So supposedly less strong than most of their other ones, but then again a lot of proper ciders have such a rough estimation that it could be anything. If you believe the % given then it could end very messy!

My cider from the recent trip to Somerset is nearly at an end and it’s finally time to have the Millwhites Whiskey Cask cider. As it’s a Millwhites, it is guaranteed to have a good bite to it and not for the faint hearted.

Review/Tasting Notes:

I have to say I am a fairly big fan of Millwhites. I’ve ad a fair few of their ciders over the last few years and never had a bad one yet. I guess they must suit my tastebuds, as they probably are not for everyone.

Anyway, I found one of their ciders today I had not heard of. It was the Chisel Jersey single variety cider. As you may have seen from other reviews, a single variety cider can be very hit or miss for me. As I had never had a Chisel Jersey before, I was heading into unknown territory!

A trip to the Lazy Dog is always a pleasurable experience. Usually it’s just before Bristol Rovers stress me out, but today it was just after a nice festival at the Royal Oak. It’s quite interesting this was served in what was the equivalent of a jam jar with a handle. Interesting idea.

Review:

Next on my list at The Portcullis cider festival was to go down the cider route and have something with a bit more bite. After being impressed previously by Millwhites, with their Rioja Cask in particular, I was keen to see if all of their ciders were that good and scrumpified. The day was still only young, but how i yearned for a nice pint of farmhouse cider. It would just help my pre-birthday celebrations go from good to great.

Millwhites Straw Pressed Cider Review

Vital Stats:

Producer: Millwhites
Cider Name: Straw pressed cider
Region: Somerset/Hertfordshire
ABV: 7%
Taste: Medium/Dry
Served: Half-pint at room temperature
Smell: Apple
Colour: Dull golden
Clarity: Cloudy
Carbonation: Still

Review:

Having previously enjoyed the Millwhites Rioja Cask cider at the Lazy Dog a good few months back, I thought I would see how the straw pressed cider compared to it when I recently visited the Bristol Cider Festival. Straw pressed cider is how cider used to be pressed through back in the day, but I rarely see it done with cider now. Presumably it is not as effective or not to everyone’s taste.

Review:

On my recent journey to discover The Lazy Dog, I noticed they had the Millwhites Rioja Cask cider on tap. I’ve never had a Millwhites before that day, so it was something I was looking to try, so I at least knew if it was worth looking for more of.
