This is the sister pub of the Golden Lion, set in the heart of the city centre on King Street. The main focus for this pub is the jazz, which becomes quite obvious when you step in, with loads of jazz posters everywhere! It’s famous for having many free live jazz/blues nights and a yearly jazz festival.

Review

A proper Bristol cider pub, centrally located in the heart of the city, just off Kings Street. Well when I say a pub, I really mean a boat, with the bar spread over both decks with ample outside seating docked on the river. With the selection of cider on tap and bottled, then you are really spoilt for choice. If I was to choose somewhere to wind away those long Saturday afternoons then this would be it. Some may say this is a bit of an old mans pub and I guess they maybe right. Though I’d rather it was that, than a poncy soulless chain! This is really traditional and nothing shows this better than the rolls on offer. E.g proper chunks/slabs of cheddar with what must be half an onion! There’s also a small beer garden, pool, foosball and some live music, all in the great location at the arches on Gloucester Road. Read the rest of this entry »

Walking down from the top of Gloucester Road, all you can see from a distance is the crazy artwork outside the Golden Lion. Walk inside and you see a traditional pub, which loves hosting local gigs throughout the week. Although only serving Thatchers & Westons cider, I do love starting a sunny Saturday afternoon on the benches outside before venturing towards the bright lights of the city centre. Review

Before 2009, this was a pretty uneventful wine bar that never really caught my imagination. However, since then it has been revived and transformed into one of the premier dedicated cider venues in Bristol. The Bristol Cider House has a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy a lovely cider, with a choice of around 15-20 available on draught/bottles. Every visit there is like going to a mini cider festival. Read the rest of this entry »
