Previously, when it was the Ashley Arms, I heard bad things about it and avoided it at all costs. It’s just off the Gloucester Road, near the cricket ground, and unless you knew it existed, then you wouldn’t necessarily stumble upon it.

This is the sister pub of the Golden Lion, set in the heart of the city centre on King Street. The main focus for this pub is the jazz, which becomes quite obvious when you step in, with loads of jazz posters everywhere! It’s famous for having many free live jazz/blues nights and a yearly jazz festival.

Review

The pub is ideally located right next door to the station. Perfect for a quick pint before/after you’re catching a train. We opted for the latter. It’s a no-frills pub which serves a good pint, even if it is only Westons. Perfectly away-fans friendly for the football, very welcoming and you can have a good chat as there is no loud music.
