Having been notified of it’s re-opening, by a friend who works nearby, I had to pop on down to see what was happening. This is the latest venture by the people behind The Orchard. With them being one of Bristol’s best cider pubs, then this had to be good for cider right?

When my friend recently brought up The Orchard in conversation, I just had to go down and see it again. It’s a little like an old friend for me, that isn’t quite local enough I can easily walk to visit, but I feel guilty I don’t see enough of because they are so close. Luckily as my other half is a perennial taxi user, it wasn’t to be the usual long journey to the other side of the river, but a nice short taxi ride.

Walking on an average Saturday afternoon through Gloucester, you would not normally realise that this place even existed. Situated through an arch next to a Church, you wouldn’t expect to find a pub, let alone a pub with so much character and cider on offer!

Some may say this is a bit of an old mans pub and I guess they maybe right. Though I’d rather it was that, than a poncy soulless chain! This is really traditional and nothing shows this better than the rolls on offer. E.g proper chunks/slabs of cheddar with what must be half an onion! There’s also a small beer garden, pool, foosball and some live music, all in the great location at the arches on Gloucester Road. Read the rest of this entry »

A true hidden gem in the heart of Kingsdown. This is a small and cosy pub, but still has the charm of a drinking hole from back in the day. At around £2.10 per pint, it still has the prices from back then too! This is quickly becoming one of my favourite locals. The bizarre thing about this place is the outside toilets with the amazing mural all over it. Not one I want to brave on this cold winter nights! Read the rest of this entry »
